A look back to 2020
Last year's Super Bowl featured a wilder game and delivery volumes followed the action
January 2020 feels like a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.
The game featured more action, there were undoubtably more parties, so there were higher volumes of orders, generally, and, especially alcohol, right before the game started.
2021: A Game Day NOT filled with surprises
We predicted food and beverage delivery volumes would increase, and they did, but not by that much. Most Game Day stats fell into a pattern of "not very surprising." After a very surprising past year, this semblance of normality felt, well, comforting.
Here are some stats we tracked:
Focused on the game, retail and ecommerce orders fellow below the Sunday prior. We saw that there were more prepared meals earlier in the day delivered, and fewer later in the day.Flowers and gifts tracked similar, overall, to the Sunday before. There was a spike in the Fourth Quarter, perhaps caused by Tampa fans sending condolence flowers to their Kansas City friends as the game entered into forgone conclusion territory and a seventh Super Bowl ring for Tom BradyCannabis volumes increased, but not by much, and tracked 90 minutes earlier in their trend lines from the week before. They were higher in the beginning of the day, lower during the game, and returned to normal by the eveningBeverages orders were somewhat higher than the week before, but given limited parties and get-togethers, purchases matched a consistent COVID trend towards general 2020 Sunday afternoon alcohol buying behavior (meaning, more than usual overall)
